> Importing Food/Beverages As part of the Homeland Security Act, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has been given responsibility for preventing the introduction of hazardous food or food byproducts into the supply chain of the USA. Food/food products & beverages included in normal household goods shipments are NOT exempt. Included are articles used for food or drink for man and other animals, chewing gum, and articles used for components of any such products. Examples of “food” include but are not limited to:
Items must be in original packaging and unopened. We strongly recommend that such items not be included in shipments. However, if they are included in a household goods shipment the following information is necessary for us to complete the proper filing with the FDA:
For beverages we will need manufacturer (winery/brewery) as well as distributor name and address. All of the above was available from the product box (now you know what we eat as office snack food). There will be an additional charge for filing with the FDA. The amount of the charge will depend on the number of food items being imported and the completeness of the above information. A form is available under our "Printable Forms" tab to assist you in providing the necessary information or click here. |
