Insurance can sometimes be confusing. If you have any questions, PLEASE feel free to call to discuss this with us. Our Insurance carrier is ITI (Intertrans Insurance). If you’d like to see their web site, please go to www.intertransins.com

The majority of our shipments are covered under our “Full Replacement Value” policy. This option requires an itemized valued inventory listing those items that you wish to be insured against damage or loss. WE CAN NOT INSURE AN ITEM AGAINST DAMAGE IF IT IS PACKED AND/OR LOADED BY YOU.

We have a convenient form to use to help you list out the items in your shipment to be covered. If you already have your own list made, you can attach your list to our form, and simply fill in the required information on the first and third pages of our form. Make sure you list all individual items that are valued over $500.00. Unless listed with the higher value, no one item will be covered for higher than $500.00 each. The FRV (Full Replacement Value) policy varies in cost depending on where you are moving from and to, and will have a $50.00 deductible on the policy.

If you do not wish to itemize your household goods, and list each item and it’s value, you may choose a policy called LUMP SUM VALUATION, where the Declared Value of the shipment is based on a MINIMUM of the net weight of the shipment (at $8.00 per pound) plus any high value items listed. All high value items (any item valued at over $500.00 each) must be listed or they will not be covered for any value greater than $500.00. For example: Your shipment weighs 2,000 lbs. net, and you have listed a dining room table at $3,000, and a hutch at $1,000.00. Your shipment will be valued at 2,000 x $8.00/lb = $16,000 plus the $4,000 high value items, = Total Minimum Declared value of $20,000.00. (You may choose to insure it for more, but it can’t be less than this amount).

Although the itemized inventory seems like a lot more work, it is the recommended method of insuring. You have until the shipment is packed and loaded to complete your valued inventory. That way you can watch the packing / loading, and make sure nothing was missed on your inventory. Please also keep in mind that the value that you declare, should be the cost to replace that item at the DESTINATION. So do your research, and if it generally costs 15% more to purchase goods in your Destination Country, then list all the items at 15% higher than the cost it would be to replace at origin.
